Network communications to remote printers are more efficient when the file $LPSDIR/adm/notez_hosts lists non-EasySpooler or Rhapsody hosts that control the remote printers. The program lpsNet generally senses that such a host is not running Rhapsody or EasySpooler, but you can avoid delays in communication by placing the names of these hosts in the notez_hosts file. Improved communications are especially noticeable with PC products running lpd/lpr compatible software. Therefore, we highly recommend that you use this file when you configure remote destinations. See Add a Destination.
The EasySpooler administrator must create the $LPSDIR/adm/notez_hosts file on the EasySpooler server. The file must be writable only by the EasySpooler administrator.
Each entry in the $LPSDIR/adm/notez_hosts file must be the fully qualified name of a non-EasySpooler or Rhapsody host that controls a remote printer. The host name that you enter in the file must be identical to the host name that you entered when you added the remote printer. The /etc/hosts.equiv file must also have an identical entry. For information on the /etc/hosts.equiv file, see Files that Identify EasySpooler Hosts.
