A printer pool is a collection of output destinations that EasySpooler treats as a single destination.
Printer pools provide the following and additional benefits:
They ensure that documents are processed as quickly as possible by allowing EasySpooler to find a printer in the pool that is not busy.
They allow EasySpooler to find a printer in the pool that has the correct form mounted.
They make efficient use of high-speed printers.
The destinations in a pool are called pool members. The way EasySpooler uses the pool members is determined by the pool priority option that you select when you define a printer pool.
The first three options—presentation, round robin, and least recently used—are similar. With any of these options, if a printer is busy, detached, or does not meet the document requirements, such as correct form or number of pages, EasySpooler goes to the next printer. If necessary, it continues to cycle through the pool members until it finds a suitable printer.
Presentation—Starts with the first printer added to the pool (printer A).
Round robin—Starts with the printer that follows the last printer used. For example, if printer B was the last printer used, it starts with printer C.
Least recently used—Starts with the printer that has been idle the longest.
All destinations—Prints the entire document on each of the pool members.
Failover—Starts with the first printer (printer A). Unlike with the Presentation, Round robin, and Least recently used options, EasySpooler waits if the printer is busy or does not meet the document requirements. Only if the printer’s status is detached or not ready, does it go to the next (printer B). If necessary, it continues to cycle through the pool members until it finds a viable printer.
