Working with Destinations

Some of the options for working with destinations are available on both the Destinations list and Destination Map windows. The examples used in the topics below use the Destinations list window.

Destination Management Tasks

You can mange destinations from the Destination list window or Destination Map window. Managing destinations includes the following tasks and shows how to use the options on the Destinations list window:

 

To view the queue for a destination:

  1. Click Destinations on the main menu and select Destination list from the drop-down menu options. The Destinations list window opens.

  2. In the row for a specific destination, left click and select Queued documents from the pop-up menu.

The Active Documents window for the selected destination opens and displays data regarding all of the documents scheduled for processing by this destination. For more information on using and changing the view or using the Active Documents window, see Documents.

 

To view the aliases for a destination:

If an alias has been defined for a printer you can view the aliases and perform other functions for an alias.

To view the aliases for a destination:

  1. Click on a printer for which an alias has been defined and select Aliases from the pop-up menu options. The Aliases window for that destination opens and lists the existing alias definitions.

  2. To make changes click on an alias and select an option from the pop-up menu. For more information on each menu option or navigating the Aliases window see, Aliases.

  3. If no changes are needed click Close.

 

To change the form that is loaded in a printer:

  1. Take the appropriate action:

  2. Go to the physical location of the printer and change the paper stock.

  3. Click Destinations on the main menu and select Destination list from the drop-down menu options. The Destinations list window opens

  4. In the row for the destination, left click and select Change form from the pop-up menu. The Change Form window opens for that destination.

  5. In the New form field, either select a form name from the pull-down list of forms used by currently spooled documents or type a new form name in the box provided.

NOTE: The pull-down list will contain names of forms that have been entered previously for this destination. It will also contain the names of any predefined form ids that where entered by the administrator. See Define System-Wide Form Names.

  1. Click OK. The form name changes in the Form column.

To set a system default printer:

You can designate a specific printer as the system default destination for EasySpooler.

  1. Click Destinations on the main menu and select Destination list from the drop-down menu options. The Destinations list window opens.

  2. In the row for the specific destination, left click and select Set as default from the pop-up menu.

The printer will be set as the system default and a star will display to the right of the name.

To clear the system default printer:

  1. In the row for the system default printer, left click and select Clear as default from the pop-up menu.

 

To submit a test page to a printer:

You can spool a test document to a printer to check the output.

  1. Click Destinations on the main menu and select Destination list from the drop-down menu options. The Destinations list window opens.

  2. In the row for the specific destination, left click and select Submit test document from the pop-up menu. The Submit Test page opens.

  3. On the Submit Test page, enter appropriate information in the fields for Document title, Lines per page and Number of pages.

  4. Click OK. The test document will be sent to the printer.

 

To disable/enable spooling on destinations:

  1. Click Destinations on the main menu and select Destination list from the drop-down menu options. The Destinations list window opens.

  2. In the row for a specific destination that is currently enabled, left click and select Disable from the pop-up menu.

  3. To disable multiple destinations, click the check box in front of each destination. Click on one of the rows and select Disable from the pop-up menu.

  4. Click Close on the confirmation window.

To enable spooling for destinations:

  1. In the row for a specific destination that is currently disabled, left click and select Enable from the pop-up menu.

  2. To enable multiple destinations, click the check box in front of each destination. Click on one of the rows and select Enable from the pop-up menu.

  3. Click Close on the confirmation window.

 

To detach/attach destinations:

  1. Click Destinations on the main menu and select Destination list from the drop-down menu options. The Destinations list window opens.

  2. In the row for a specific destination that is currently enabled, left click and select Detach from the pop-up menu.

  3. To detach multiple destinations, click the check box in front of each destination. Click on one of the rows and select Detach from the pop-up menu.

The Detach Destination window opens.

  1. Enter a Detach reason. The reason you enter should be brief but meaningful to both you and the other users who will view it in the Destinations list. The maximum number of characters is 42; only the first 15 characters will display in the table. Alphanumeric and special characters are allowed.

  2. Select the action to take if the destination is busy.

  3. Click OK. The destination is detached.

To attach destinations:

  1. In the row for a specific destination that is currently detached, left click and select Attach from the pop-up menu.

  2. To attach multiple destinations, click the check box in front of each destination. Click on one of the rows and select Attach from the pop-up menu.

 

To change a destination's protocol (destination type):

If a destination is currently detached you can change the protocol (the destination type) as well as other parameters for the destination.

  1. Click Destinations on the main menu and select Destination list from the drop-down options. The Destinations list opens.

  2. Left click in the row of a specific destination and select Change protocol from the pop-up menu and select the new protocol from the drop-down list. See Add a Destination for more information on the destination types.

  3. The Change Destination window for that destination opens displaying the new destination type that was selected.

  4. Make any other necessary changes. For more information on the other fields see Change Destination.

  5. Click OK.

 

To display a printers home page

The option Printer home page provides a convenient link to printer information and administration options available on the Web from the manufacturer of the printer. The information varies by printer manufacturer and model. For some printers no information is available.

To access the information:

  1. Click on the row of the printer whose information you want to view.

  2. Select Printer home page from the pop-up menu. The page opens in a separate menu.

 

To delete destinations:

NOTE: Before you can remove a destination, you must remove all active and inactive documents associated with that destination.

  1. Click Destinations on the main menu and select Destination list from the drop-down options. The Destinations list opens.

  2. In the row for the destination that you want to delete, left click and select Delete from the pop-up menu.

  3. To delete multiple destinations, click the check box in front of each destination. Click on one of the rows and select Delete from the pop-up menu.

  4. Click Yes on the confirmation window
